Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
