Minister Says Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing classified matters in any cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss classified information while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their car, not to have conversations at a secret level in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This announcement comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader defence situation highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of government operations, from transport usage to discussions practices.
